The First Week.
The first week is behind us. It went well, really well, surprisingly well. I won't lie and say that the first day wasn't overwhelming, because it was, but I didn't feel AS overwhelmed as I had anticipated. The curriculum is quite demanding and time consuming, that was quite a challenge because there is only one me and three of them. In the beginning, we fumbled quite a bit through the curriculum but only because it was completely foreign to us. I would have gone through the curriculum more thoroughly before that first day if it hadn't have been for Toemaggedon, but by the end of the first week we were familiar enough that our hours were pared down significantly. We are currently working close to five [sometimes six for Faith] hours a day, with them taking alternating breaks throughout. I plan on continually 'tweaking' the program until I find what works best for us, but for now we have been following the curriculum's 'daily plan' to a T. I can already see their unique learning styles and what works and doesn't with each of them. It's exciting and amazing how much they are truly learning and how thrilled they are with themselves. Kate is the only one who has expressed wanting to go to school so far, and I understand her frustration. The first week was really pretty easy for her curriculum wise and she was truly missing the social aspect of school. She will be starting gymnastics again in a few weeks and I'm hoping this will alleviate some of that for her. Overall, I think we are all excited about this year and I only hope to be able to keep the momentum going and to keep breathing.
